KUIU will double their rain gear breathability ratings by using Toray’s NEW innovative Dermizax® NX, the most breathable waterproof membrane ever created.

DIXON, CALIFORNIA (May 22, 2013) – KUIU announced they will be the first company in the hunting industry to use Toray’s latest waterproof membrane, Dermizax®NX, in several new styles being introduced this Summer.  With Dermizax® NX, Toray introduces a new three-dimensional waterproof laminate with unprecedented breathability.  KUIU will integrate this technology into their products by bonding Toray’s Primeflex® four-way stretch fabric to Toray’s Dermizax® NX waterproof membrane and a Toray knit backer, creating a highly durable and extremely breathable three layer fabric  capable of maintaining comfort during aerobic activity in the field.

Toray’s latest technology, Dermizax® NX, sets a new standard for waterproof breathable membranes. The membrane is completely wind and waterproof, up to 200% stretch in both directions and more breathable than any comparable product. Compared to Toray’s previous leading waterproof breathable membrane, Dermizax® EV, the breathability ratings have doubled from 20,000 g/m2/24hr to 40,000 g/m2/24hr.

    This sounds AMAZING Jason!!!!

    • Jason Hairston

It is amazing! Wait till you see the product line later this week!!

  2. Larry Schwartz

Sounds interesting. I was wondering how waterproof and windproof it is when the fabric is stretched out its 200%, for example when sitting down with your knees bent (and the fabric strecthed over y our knees) on a windy and rainy slope glassing for game.

    • Jason Hairston

Totally waterproof and wind proof even when stretched. This is unreal technology by Toray!!

  3. Kurt

Looks like you did it again Jason!

    • Jason Hairston

      Thanks Kurt!!

  4. deadwolf

Man, the KUIU raingear I have now is so good I can’t imagine better

    • Jason Hairston

      This stuff is UNREAL!

  5. Michael

Is this going to be as or more quite than the current Chugach Rain gear? Looking forward to it great job Jason!

    • Jason Hairston

      Much Quieter.

  6. Jon

Will it weigh any more than the current chugach material???

    • Jason Hairston

The new NX Product line we will introduce later this week is designed for durability and to be significantly quieter than Chugach. Because of this it will weigh more but, you can wear it in a much wider range of conditions because of the breathability and stretch. More to come on this later in the week.

  7. Josh Henkel

Love that you are on the cutting edge of Hunting Technology!!! Hoping this will also be quiet for all of us bowhunters out there….

    • Jason Hairston

Yes it is significantly quieter than our Chugach fabric.

  8. JT

Sounds amazing…will be ordering a set for this year’s hunting season once they are available. I assume these new items have been put through the paces and tested up in AK already….correct?

    • Jason Hairston

We have been in development and testing for over 2 years on this program. More to come on the new NX product line later this week.

  9. Chad

Hey Jason, does this mean you will make a new garment layering system or will this fabric be added to existing clothing such as attack pants/ guide series?

    • Jason Hairston

NX will be introduced this week in a new product line. More to come on these new products at the end of the week.

  10. Nick

One step ahead of the game again can’t wait to check it out !

    • Jason Hairston

      This stuff is next level!

  11. Mike

    What a tease Jason!!! Lol

    • Jason Hairston

      Thanks Mike!!

  12. Ed

Are pre-orders available? Have been waiting since January to place an order for the NX. Looking forward to more information.

    • Jason Hairston

More information later this week on the NX product line. Its awesome stuff.

  13. Val marquez

Will this be offered in other gear, as well? Any price points available yet? No other company would give out this info prior to available because folks would wait for the new item and not order, this would be a lost sale. Thanks.

    • Jason Hairston

All of this will be posted by Friday.

  14. Todd Watkins

Great news, keep leading the way Jason. If you build it, we will come!

    • Jason Hairston

      Thanks Todd!

  15. Rudy

What the heck? How do you expect us to keep up with all the new stuff your putting out, between the $$ and closet room to put it in? When are you going to offer a trade-in program? LOL!

    • Jason Hairston

Innovation’s like this are really fun to introduce!

      • errol

Come on the Kuiu building blog right now, is really fun and exciting !

  16. errol

Is that the NX product line is going to take the place of the Guide line, the Chugach rain line or is it one more new thing apart, such as the Tiburon line ?

    • Jason Hairston

Hi Errol! It will be a stand alone line. Certainly breathable enough to wear all the time.

  17. Nathan

Are you looking for people who live in the Pacific Northwest to test it?

    • Jason Hairston

🙂 Thanks for the offer Nathan.

  18. Suchee

Primeflex for the face fabric??!!! The Guide line is FINISHED!
Durable and quiet for sure, but at a cost to weight…

Cant wait to see the specs

    • Jason Hairston

All of this info will be available by Friday.

  19. Brian W.

If I just made an order, can I call in and wait for the new fabric?

    • Jason Hairston

Call customer service and check to see if your order shipped.

  20. AndrewH

When will they be ready to ship? I purchased Chugach pants the other week…and would much prefer these.

Need the new ones by mid July for Stone Sheep trip.

    • Jason Hairston

  21. scott d

im excited for the release of this, hopefully i can score a sweet deal on some lightly used chugach gear!

    • Jason Hairston

  22. Adam

I’d love to see a shell with this stuff that weighs less than 14oz.

  23. Matt

What is the durability and weight like compared to the Chugach (specifically the jacket)?

    • Jason Hairston

All of this will be posted on Friday.

  24. David Young

Is all the info going to be posted by Friday? Just messing with you 🙂 Very exciting indeed. June is going to be quite the month with the Daypack, Tiburon and now this coming out. I’m just going to direct deposit a certain percentage of my check each month right to KUIU and get it over with up front.

  25. Craig Germond

Can’t wait to check it out Friday!

  26. Bryant

What is the breathability rating of the guide jacket?

    • Jason Hairston

We do not have a rating because it is not a laminated product.

  27. Bo Bonner

Going to need a set for my Alaska archery goat hunt with freelance. Mark me down and get them in stock. Love Kuiu, thanks for all your work Jason. Bo

    • Jason Hairston

Thank you Bo for the support!

  28. AZinAK

I’m really excited about this new line. I’ve been hoping for a set that will be able to hopefully run the gambit up here in Alaska. Drizzly moose hunts, high scree slopes, float hunts, coastal hunts. Hopefully my sequestration effected income can afford it! LOL Damn Obama!!!

    • Jason Hairston

Yes this was built for AK and BC where you have to live in your rain gear.

  29. Juan Puente

Not trying to be a negative nancy but will this stuff really be ready to ship “mid-June?” The bino haness was announced months ago and we are still waiting for that and there never was a “follow up” post stating when it’d be available like you said there would be… Don’t get me wrong I’m all for new stuff and will surely end up with it if it ends up being as good as you say but what about the other gear that was “launched” so to speak? And I’m still waiting on my hats. 🙂

    • Jason Hairston

I have not announced a delivery date of the bino harness because I do not have shipping confirmation for this product yet. The new NX product line has shipped and will be in customs next week.

  30. Cory Benge

    Hi Jason,
    1. Cost ?
    2. Availability ?
    3. Colors available ?
    4. Any change from current design ?
I know, this message is short and sweet and to the point. But you’re a busy man!
    Cory Benge

    • Todd

I’ll save Jason the trouble since you can’t be bothered to read the above replies.

      More info to come Friday!

      • Jason Hairston

        Thank you!

    • Jason Hairston

  31. Anthony

Man Jason, give a guy a chance to catch his breath once in a while! I still haven’t talked my girlfriend into the Tiburon line yet and u come out with even MORE must have gear, lol. In all seriousness, thank you for your passion and drive to produce the best hunting gear in the world.

    • Jason Hairston

Thanks Anthony! Innovations like these are what drives me.

  32. TJ

Sounds sweet! Will the PrimaFlex layer of the Kuiu fabric be the same, more, or less dense than the 274g/m2 of the Guide series?

    • Jason Hairston

Less dense than the soft shell fabric used in the Guide Series of products.

  33. Chris

Sounds like a great product. How quiet is it? I own the chugach pieces and I’m very happy with them. I live on the west coast of British Columbia so having two sets of great rain gear is a good idea. Can’t wait for more info on this product. Well done Jason, keep up the innovation!

    • Jason Hairston

Friday I will post more specific info.

  34. Casey

Holy $#!* This is going to make some serious waves in the outdoor world. Look out Gore! I’m proud to see the Kuiu guys making the move to the top.. Might have to sell a kidney to buy it but it might just be worth it! thanks for the dedication !!

    • Jason Hairston

      Thanks Casey!

  35. Kevin

Enough already!!! I’m ready to preorder!! Great job Jason!!!

  36. Tim Loran

I hope when vias gaters do arrive they are in this fabric! that would be awesome.

    • Jason Hairston

      They are.

  37. Doug

    Wow…it’s HEAVY!

    • Jason Hairston

This gear is durable and quiet which drives the weight. If you are looking for a light weight packable option for rain gear this is not the right choice. Take a look at Chugach.

One thing to note is with the breathability of this gear you can wear it as a one product solution, for a jacket and rain gear which will weigh significantly less than a typical 2 layer system.

  38. Matt

Jason, please stop this, my wife is going to kill me! Time to add to my lineup.

    • Jason Hairston

It is only going to worse. A lot of new products in the pipeline!

  39. Nate

It’s Friday already! Can we get more info PLEEEASE?:-)

    • Jason Hairston

It is up on the blog???

  40. sean

jason, your worse then technology, soon as i buy the newest thing from KUIU, you come out with more….HOW DO WE KEEP UP HERE

    • Jason Hairston

When I am introduced to new technologies that we will all benefit from I feel it is my work to take it to market as soon as possible. I hope you can understand.

  41. PD

What about the 3XL, Your new stuff in 2XL doesn’t fit the same as the old stuff, to tight.

    • Jason Hairston

3XL is coming later this year.

  42. JIm

How do you feel this product would work in eastern Montana we don’t get a ton of rain during hunting season but we do get a lot of cold snowy weather at times .looking for the all around do all jacket . Also is the backer in this jacket similar to what’s in the guide jacket or is the waterproof liner touching your skin like a gore-tex shell would

  43. Jason Hairston

    Hi Jim,

I probably would recommend the Guide Jacket for Eastern Montana. The backer on the Yukon is a Circular Knit that is soft to the touch and comfortable against your skin. But it is not as warm as the Guide Jacket. I just do not think you get enough rain to Justify the Yukon. But it would work if you layer underneath.

  44. JIm

    Thanks Jason

Not so much worried about warmth as i have the spindrift to go under it just need a jacket that that is bullet proof against all the conditions we get in Montana without carrying multiple pieces of clothing with me .if you still think the guide jacket then I will go with that. I do have the original guide jacket and its been pretty rock solid although I have managed to get it soaked through a time or two in a stray down pour . Pls let me know what you think

  45. Jason Hairston

In that case you will really like the Yukon. It is an amazing piece of gear!

  46. JIm

Thanks Jason I appreciate you honesty I will pre-order on Monday 🙂

  47. Corry

Want to put in a big thank you for Brandon, excellent customer service. Best customer service and he knew what he was talking about inside and out. Thank you.
